The collection is comprised of three series: Correspondence, Other Papers; and Photographs. Included in the collection are scrapbooks, diaries, autograph books, and other materials relating to his public life and various travels. The photographs include portraits of Pattengill and Pattengill family members; group portraits of reunions of students taught by Pattengill in Ithaca, Michigan; and a photo of the Pattengill home in Lansing, Michigan.

The Henry Russel Lectureship Committee record group provides for unique research possibilities. An overview of the history of teaching at the University of Michigan can be examined throughout these files, primarily documenting the period from 1969 to 1989. Professor of Latin and acting president of University of Michigan. Correspondence, 1855-1856, to his wife, describing his travels and experiences in Europe; also material pertaining to affairs of University of Michigan, including letters from Andrew D. White of Cornell University; biographical and genealogical material on Frieze, eighteen volumes of records of European travel; and photographs.

The Frieze papers are comprised of personal and professional materials, including correspondence to colleagues and family; travel diaries and letters to his wife, Anna, written while traveling in Europe, 1855-1856 and 1872-1873; lectures and essays; papers from his years as a student at Brown and as a Latin instructor; various papers on his views of university education and his ideas for curriculum improvements; biographical material on the Frieze family; and photographs. Professor of history at the University of Washington. Manuscripts, pamphlets, maps, pictures, newspapers, and other materials dealing with the Dutch migration to America collected for his book Netherlanders in America.

The Lucas collection consists of manuscripts, pamphlets, maps, pictures, newspapers, and other materials dealing with the Dutch migration to America collected for his book Netherlanders in America.

The collection includes two diaries, for 1864 and 1865. In the 1864 diary, Dean tells of directing and supervising men in erecting and operating sawmills and building storehouses, hospitals, bridges, etc. around Lookout Mountain and Chattanooga. He also writes of the move from there to the siege of Atlanta and the occupation of Atlanta; of deserters, prisoners, destruction of railroads, regimental inspections, and camp life in general; and of the return march to Chattanooga in six and one-half days. The 1865 diary (Jan.-June), kept while he was in Chattanooga, tells about the weather, building barracks, duties, social activities, the surrender of Lee, death of Lincoln, and mustering out. Also includes miscellaneous citations, commissions, legal documents relating to his military service and his work as regent, and a statement (notarized by Dean) of Victor C. Vaughan pertaining to the Douglas-Rose dispute, 1878.

Papers consist of a scrapbook containing programs and invitations largely connected with Northwestern University, miscellaneous letters received while professor at University of Michigan, many relating to speaking engagements; and manuscript biography of Thomas M. Cooley.

The Henry Wade Rogers papers consist of a scrapbook containing programs and invitations largely connected with Northwestern University, miscellaneous letters received while professor at University of Michigan, many relating to speaking engagements; and a manuscript biography of Thomas M. Cooley. The papers are organized in to three series: Correspondence, 1873-1920; Thomas M. Cooley; and Scrapbook. Correspondents include: Thomas F. Bayard, George Biddle, Henry B. Henry Hatch was equipment manager for the University of Michigan Athletic Department, 1921-1964. Photographs of University of Michigan athletes (chiefly football players (many autographed to Hatch) and coaches and celebrities, photographs of Hatch at work in the University of Michigan athletic equipment area, photos with the Little Brown Jug trophy, photo album frorm 1947 train trip to Rose Bowl; photograph of Hatch as a child; also photograph (1914) of Ann Arbor, Mich., fire engine next to an interurban car; also newspaper clippings, correspondence (mostly related to his retirement and being made an honorary "M" Club member), and biographical information.

The Hatch collection consists of photos acquired by Hatch over the course of his 44 year association with the U-M Athletic Department. The collection includes portraits and posed action photos of football players, mainly ca. 1940-1955, some of which are autographed to Hatch; photos documenting the football team's train trips to the 1948 and 1951 Rose Bowl games and several Hollywood photos from the track team's 1935 trip to California. There are miscellaneous photos of coaches and players from other sports, posed photos of Miss Michigan 1948 on a ski hill and a 1914 photo of an Ann Arbor fire engine next to an interurban car. Also, newspaper clippings, correspondence (mostly related to his retirement and being made an honorary "M" Club member), and biographical information.

Member of the Michigan State Legislature. Personal papers include correspondence, speeches and writings, a scrapbook, and photographs.

The collection has been arranged into a single series of Personal papers. Included are correspondence; two volumes of speeches and other writings concerning prohibition, woman suffrage, and other political and patriotic subjects; scrapbook, family materials, and miscellanea. Within the correspondence, there are collected letters of Michigan Senator Charles E. Townsend, 1913-1914, and a letter from Benjamin R. Tillman concerning smoking in the U.S. Senate. Other correspondents include J. G. Cannon, Secretary of State William J. Bryan, Booker T. Washington, James B. Angell, Frank Knox, Harry B. Hutchins, Charles E. Townsend, and Earl C. Michener.

This collection includes a scrapbook of newspaper clippings largely dealing with University athletic activities, especially football and miscellaneous papers concerning his activities as a sportswriter for several newspapers while a student, including a note from James B. Angell on Rhodes scholarships.

There are also photographs of the interior of Caldwell's room, presumably at the Delta Kappa Epsilon house; as well as a photo of Smith.

Herbert C. Youtie was a research professor of Papyrology and associate professor of Greek at the University of Michigan. Louise C. Youtie was a scholar of Greek and Papyrology. The Youties' expertise in the field of papyrology was internationally renowned. Their papers document their work transcribing, studying, and interpreting script found in papyri and ostraka. Materials include correspondence, publication drafts, research paperwork, and photographs of papyri.

The Herbert C. Youtie series, 1932 -- 1979 (5 linear feet) documents his work transcribing, studying, and interpreting ancient Greek & Coptic script found in papyri and ostraka. The contents of this series also contain paperwork with his research, writing, and correspondence. Materials include photograph prints of papyri which he used for his work. Also found here are his professional correspondence, publication drafts, commentaries, final copies, and transcripts. The content is divided into four sub-series: Papyri, Writings and Publications, Correspondence, and Transcriptions and Notes. The arrangement of materials, as they were received from the University of Michigan Papyrology Collection, has been retained.
