Russell Bidlack was the first Dean of the School of Library Science at the University of Michigan, serving in that post from 1969 to 1984, as well as an author and historian. His papers reflect his interests in library science, local history, and genealogy.

The Bidlack papers consist of seven series: Correspondence, Personal Material, Class Notes, Miscellaneous Files, Writings, the John and Ann Allen Research files, and the Elisha and Mary Ann Rumsey Research Files.

Two letters to Mrs. Alcott describing the death of her husband at the Second Battle of Bull Run, including a letter, Sept. 4, 1862, from M. B. Cleveland, chaplain of the 44th Illinois Infantry, and a letter, Sept. 4, 1862, from E. C. Judd, adjutant of the 1st Michigan Infantry.

Russell M. Magnaghi is professor of history at Northern Michigan University. The collection consists of oral history recordings and transcripts and photographs, developed as part of Magnaghi's work in documenting history and ethnicity of the Upper Peninsula and Michigan in general.

The Russell DeJong papers documents the activities of an individual who, through his teaching, research, and commitment to his profession, achieved national and international prominence in the field of neurology. The collection has been arranged into six series: Correspondence, Professional Organizations, University of Michigan, Published Papers, Miscellaneous, and Photographs.

This collection consists of pen-and-ink cartoon drawings prepared for use in the Ann Arbor High School student yearbook, Omega.

Linden, Genesee County, Michigan, businessman and inventor. Papers and photographs largely concerning agricultural and motion picture business interests, especially the Judson Michibean Company and the Photometric Products Corporation.

The Judson collection could be of interest to researchers concerned with the technical development of American agriculture, especially beans, and for those interested in the motion picture industry. Among the papers are patents, technical information, and advertising releases on the development of Judson's mechanized agricultural equipment. This material documents the impact Judson's innovations had on the bean industry. There are also business papers of Ephraim and Russell Judson, which though incomplete, include several suits and financial reports of Judson's companies and features breakdowns on manufacturing and marketing costs for specific years. Also included is a scrapbook and a photo album of Judson's Michibean Company. Donated with the collection and separately cataloged are several issues of the Michigan bean industry publication "The Bean Bag."

Most of the material in the collection which relates to Photometric Products Corporation is legal in nature, and includes evidence and exhibits assembled for the 1953 lawsuit over the motion picture sound development patents. For the most part, the papers concern matters of ownership and patent rights, but some financial and technical information is also included. This material could be very useful in researching the technical development of film or in completing the legal history of the motion picture industry. However, it would need to be supplemented by the court records and evidence submitted by the other parties involved in the controversy.

The collection has been arranged into the following series: Biographical material; Business papers (mainly Michibean Company); Photometric Products Corporation materials; Miscellaneous; and Photographs.

The Ruth Buchanan collection consists largely of letters received from University of Michigan students and alumni serving in the military during World War II and the Korean War. Other letters commending her service during the war were received from Dwight Eisenhower and Chester Nimitz. A smaller portion of the collection includes research material on covered bridges in Michigan. Within her other non-war related correspondence, there is a letter from Jane Addams, Nov. 4, 1931. The photograph series includes portraits and informal photographs of Buchanan in the museum where she worked for thirty years; photos of university students, alumni, and Ann Arbor residents in military service during World War II and the Korean War; photos of NROTC and Navy V-12 students at the University of Michigan during World War II; photos of covered bridges and of Michigan National Guard exercises at Camp Grayling; and a drawing of Elbridge F. Bacon.

Ann Arbor, Michigan, historian and writer. Manuscripts of writings and papers presented at professional organizations; topics of research include Emma Hall, Michigan prison reformer, the Woman's Christian Temperance Union, Frances Willard, Alice Freeman Palmer, women's history, and Washtenaw County, Michigan; also photographs and sound recordings.

The Ruth Bordin Papers have been divided into five series: Biographical/personal, Writings, Topical Files, Photographs, and Sound Recordings.

The Writings series consists of copies of unpublished conference papers and published books reviews and articles. The bulk of the collection has been arranged into a Topical File and consists of correspondence and other materials arranged alphabetically, either by subject or by name of correspondent. The other three series are small and are described as part of the container listing.

Mayor of Birmingham, Michigan, 1970-1971, and Republican member of the Michigan House of Representatives, 1974-1984. Biographical material, speeches and articles, subject files relating to her public service activities, and photographs.

The papers of Ruth Braden McNamee cover her career in politics from 1964 to 1984 and include four inches of material. Most of the material is from her service as mayor of Birmingham (1970-1971) and as a state representative from Oakland County (1974-1984). The papers have been divided into four series: Biographical/Personal, Speeches and articles, Birmingham city government, and Michigan house of representatives. There are also several photographs which remain with the papers in a separate folder at the end of the collection.

Most of the collection is made up of legislative newsletters, press releases, and speeches given by McNamee. In the last two series, there are also interesting files on: Birmingham's fair housing ordinance, the first passed by referendum in a white community in the country; the 1970 Birmingham-Detroit mayoral exchange between McNamee and Roman Gribbs; the August 1970 riot in Birmingham which led McNamee to declare a state of emergency, impose a dusk to dawn curfew, prohibit public gatherings, and contemplate requesting National Guard forces; the Precious Metals Recovery Act; her 1984 vote against a US constitutional convention; and correspondence with the Millikens, mostly Helen, on the Equal Rights Amendment.
