Professor of forestry at the University of Michigan. Photographs of forestry, lumbering, and sugar cane production in Cuba, and other West Indies locales, Central and South America, and the southern United States.

The collection consists of a single series of photographs, arranged alphabetically by place name or by topic. Most of the images detail forestry practices in Central and South America and the sugar cane industry in Cuba and other Caribbean islands. Some of the photographs relate to forestry in Louisiana and South Carolina.

Donald R. Brown was a professor in the University of Michigan Department of Psychology (1964-1996) and director of the U-M Center for Research on Learning and Teaching (CRLT). He was also co-director from its inception of the Integrated Premedical-Medical Program, known as Inteflex. Professor Brown published many articles in the area of personality and student development; he also presented papers at many symposia and was a consultant on topics of learning and teaching. The collection includes files from his career at the University of Michigan.

Donald R. Shepherd (1936-) is a philanthropist, businessperson, and University of Michigan (U-M) graduate who has made several donations and scholarship endowments to both U-M and the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), and is an ardent supporter of both U-M athletics and the marching band. This collection contains material documenting Shepherd's family and his professional career, as well as his philanthropical activities at the University of Michigan and UCLA. Records include correspondence, photographs and photo albums, memoranda, and awards.

The Donald R. Shepherd papers primarily documents the philanthropic activities of Donald R. Shepherd at the University of Michigan (U-M) and the University of California, Los Angeles. Shepherd is largely involved with women's athletics at both Universities, although he has made scholarships available for athletes competing in both women's and men's sports. Shepherd is also a supporter of the U-M Marching Band.

Materials in this collection are chiefly correspondence in various formats (handwritten notes, emails, typewritten letters). However it also includes published materials; notes; various personal documents; event ephemera; photographs; and other materials. Many of these materials were placed into binders by Shepherd himself, with sticky notes affixed to pages of the binders that describe why he found certain documents important. The materials within these binders were kept in Shepherd's original order.

Michigan State Police officer, 1923-1941, Michigan Civil Defense Director during World War II, State Police Commissioner, 1947-1951, Republican candidate for governor, 1954, served on Michigan Liquor Commissioner and as Detroit Recorders Court judge. Papers include extensive documentation of his service as Director of Civil Defense and State Police Commissioner and his political activities.

The Donald S. Leonard collection is a valuable resource to researchers studying topics of law enforcement and civil defense and Michigan state politics and government. The Donald S. Leonard collection has been arranged into seven series: Personal and Correspondence, 1925-1966; Civil Defense; World War II Era, 1941-1946; Michigan State Police, 1929-1952; Detroit Police Department, 1952-1954; Political Files, 1950-1956; Organization and Activities Files; Audio-Visual Materials; Committee on Equal Educational Opportunities. Leonard also taught law course at the State Police Recruit School and Metropolitan Police Academy of Michigan.

Donald W. Riegle, Jr. served five terms as a Representative from Michigan's 7th district in the U.S. House of Representatives (1967-1976) and three terms as a U.S. Senator from Michigan (1976-1995). Riegle was born in Flint, Mich. He graduated from the University of Michigan with a B.A. in Business Administration (1960) and from Michigan State University with an M.B.A. (1961). The collection reflects Riegle's service from 1966 to 1994 as a U.S. Congressman and Senator. Material from Riegle's years in U.S. Senate comprise the majority of the collection. Collection includes campaign material, topical files, material related to bills and acts, committees and subcommittees; also material related to Michigan affairs, constituent mail, and personal files.

The papers in this collection reflect Donald Riegle's service from 1966 to 1994 as U.S. Congressman and Senator. There is nothing from his years before his entry into politics in 1966 and nothing from the period afterwards. The papers from his Congressional years amount to 21 linear feet; those from his Senate years comprise 143 linear feet, which is of course the vast majority of the collection.

In a broad sense, most of the collection consists of memoranda, notes, reports, and similar materials, concerning pending legislation. Some concerns committee hearings and testimony. There are also files containing campaign and other political material, staffers' files, and a certain amount that might be considered relating more to Riegle the person. This includes a manuscript of an unpublished book; his schedules, speeches, and records of his legislative activity. The collection also documents the activity of his liaison offices in Michigan.

Don B. Chaffin is the Richard G. Snyder Distinguished University Professor (Emeritus) and top scholar in the field of ergonomics at the University of Michigan. The Don B. Chaffin papers document his professional efforts and primarily consist of publications, such as booklets, brochures, and periodicals. Also included are photographic material and California legislative records about ergonomics.

Binkowski was a district judge from Warren, Michigan who collected extensively about Democratic politics and the Polish American community in Michigan. The collection includes materials collected by Binkowski on Democratic politics, the Polish community in Michigan, the cities of Detroit, Warren, and Hamtramck, Michigan, and collected letters, postage covers, and stamps.

The Don Binkowski collection consists of correspondence, campaign materials, and other papers concerning his work as a delegate to the Michigan Constitutional Convention, 1961-1962, as Warren city councilman, and as attorney and judge; also papers concerning local and state Democratic politics, and his activities with Polish-American organizations.

The Donald B. Canham papers, 1968-1988, comprise five linear feet of material documenting Canham's tenure as athletic director at the University of Michigan. The papers include extensive departmental correspondence with coaches and administrative staff members, several television contract files, Big Ten Conference administrative minutes, and a variety of materials from several national athletic organizations. Of particular note in the Personal series are several interviews, newspaper feature articles, and speeches that focus upon Canham's philosophy, goals, and accomplishments as an athletic director.
