The Steve Kagan collection consists of 35 mm black and white negatives selected from his personal of work for the Michigan Daily as well as 76 image he selected and digitized from his Daily negatives and 15 images chosen from the Bentley's Michigan Daily records. The digitized images include some concert shots--Aerosmith, Anthony Braxton and 1974 Ann Arbor Jazz and Blues Festival, Hash-Bash and other Diag activities, Daily offices and staff, Gerald Ford meeting with students at the Michigan League, the 1976 Democratic Convention in NYC, a trip to the Indianapolis 500, and a nice shot of Ann Arbor icon "Shakey Jake."

Stewart Henry Burnham (1870-1943) was an 1899 graduate of the University of Michigan as well as a New York botanist and mycologist. Includes photographs of the University of Michigan Class of 1899 at its ten-year reunion; students on a botanical excursion to Third Sister Lake, near Ann Arbor, Michigan; Burnham in a rural area just outside Ann Arbor; and an Ann Arbor lodging house.

Vestry meeting minutes; administrative files; registers of services; registers of baptisms, burials, marriages, etc.; records of different church organizations; bulletins of special church services; yearly files of collected clippings, photos, and other materials regarding church activities.

The records of St. James parish include vestry minutes, 1924-1993; baptism, confirmation, marriage, and burial records, 1926-1993; bulletins, administrative records; records of the Episcopal Church Women and other parish organizations; and photographs. This record group has been divided into nine series covering the period from 1923 soon after the church began conducting services until 1993 when the church members decided to disband.

St. Matthew's Episcopal Church

The records of St. Matthew's (before 1971) total three linear feet and date primarily from the mid-1920s. Although providing excellent documentation for the years since about 1927, the St. Matthew's series, except for an occasional program or brochure, does not include materials for the first eighty years of the church's existence. Happily, the collection contains published histories and commemorative programs, which help to fill in these missing years.

The St. Matthew's series has been divided into six subseries: Informational Files, Church Government, Pastors, Church Organizations, Publications, and Scrapbooks.

Informational Files

"Informational Files" consist of manuscript and printed histories written at various dates, commemorative programs, and newspaper clippings about church activities. Also included with this subseries are report documents that the church was required to submit to the state as a non-profit corporation, and to its denominational parent, the Diocese of Michigan.

St. Philip's and St. Stephen's Episcopal Church was formed in 1917 with the merger of St. Philip's (begun in 1886) and St. Stephen's (organized in 1869). The church closed in 2009. The records of St. Philip's and St. Stephen's Episcopal Church include records of St. Stephen's Church (1869-1917), records of St. Philip's Church (1886-1917), and records of the merged church (1917-2008).

For each of these sets of records, the researcher will find church registers containing membership information, such as record of baptisms, confirmations, marriages, burials, church history, and communicants. In addition for the merged church, there are also vestry materials, newsletters, directories, annual reports, church history and anniversary materials, and a scattering of photographs.

Graphic design office staffed by junior and senior students majoring in graphic design and screen arts & cultures, serving the three University of Michigan student unions (Michigan League, Michigan Union, Pierpont Commons). Collection consists of chronologically arranged scrapbooks and digital files containing designs and work samples including brochures, fliers, forms, signs, and advertising for campus offices, organizations and events.

The collection consists of a single series, University Unions Graphic Design Office Student Work, which contains content in hardcopy scrapbooks and digital files maintained online. The collection includes 32 large format scrapbooks and 3.71 GB of digital files. The series presents the graphic design work produced by the office from late 1984 through June 30, 2004.

The scrapbooks contain chronologically arranged samples of final designs. Affixed to the scrapbook pages are the brochures, fliers, logos, signs, and other products created and designed by the UUGDO design staff. For large banners and signs, a photograph of the final product is affixed as an illustration.

The digital files, also arranged chronologically, include source files for final pieces and working drafts, images, and graphics utilized in the production of these designs. The digital works are comprised primarily of raster files in TIFF format, while the remainder are vector files in SVG or PDF formats. Some notable works in the collection include Apple Computers advertisements, Rose Bowl promotional materials, event fliers for campus greek organizations, posters for major campus events, and novelty products. The digital files cover the periods of 1988-1999 and 2004, although future additions of digital material are expected to be made to the collection.

Democratic Congressman from Michigan's 15th District, 1964-1994, member of the Labor and Education Committee his entire career - becoming chairman in 1991, also chairman of Post Office and Civil Service Committee; papers include subject files, legislative and committee files, campaign material, photographs and videotapes.

The William D. Ford papers are divided into seven series: Subject Files, Legislative Files, Committee Files, Campaign Material, Public Relations, Photographs, and Audiovisual Material. The collection is primarily an office file which documents Ford's activities as a local representative, federal legislator and politician. Constituents' opinions and concerns are represented as well, particularly in the correspondence and questionnaire response files.

Subject Files, 1965-1995

Subject Files (79 linear feet; 1965-1995) include correspondence, memoranda, questionnaires and background material. The files are arranged chronologically by year, and then alphabetically by topic within each year. The original office filing systems have been maintained; files dating from 1965 to 1979 are listed by slightly idiosyncratic folder headings, while files dating from 1980 to 1995 are arranged using standardized subject headings, followed by more detailed subheadings. The subheadings are not used on this boxlist so that, for example, a folder listed as "Migrant Workers" in the first section of the subject files would be found under the "Labor" section of the post-1980 files.

Most of the constituent correspondence is arranged by topic, and major controversies of the time are well represented, including the Vietnam War, amnesty for draft dodgers, Watergate, economic issues and abortion. Examples of postcard campaigns and form letters have been kept, but the bulk of this type of correspondence was discarded.

Constituent correspondence regarding court enforced integration of public schools is listed as "Busing" in the chronological Subject Files from the early 1970s. However, the sheer volume of busing correspondence compelled Ford's staff to maintain separate "Busing" files as well, and these letters are stored out of chronological order in boxes 77 and 78. These files document what was perhaps the most vehemently debated issue in the Fifteenth District during Ford's tenure in congress.
