The record group consists of a single alphabetical topical file. It has been largely maintained in its original order, with the contents and names of files preserved. Some of the folders pertain to committees or task forces within the MCHD, such as the Certification Task Force, the Fundraising Subcommittee, and the Security Subcommittee. The Certification Task Force was responsible for certifying new members and expelling members when necessary. It was also responsible for developing the criteria necessary for certification. The Coalition Maintenance Subcommittee dealt with outreach, diversity, and conflict resolution between members of the MCHD. In addition to documenting its primary function, the Fundraising Subcommittee folder also reflects the subcommittee's research on laws affecting fundraising for ballot question committees, and contains materials developed by professional fund-raisers Dutton Morehouse & Associates of Bingham Farms, Michigan. Fundraising was a critical activity for the fledgling organization. In a subcommittee report, they noted that "Remember we need to raise over 2 million dollars during the next 14 months. Oregon spent 2.5 million!"
Other folders, such as Agendas, Minutes Newsletters, and Structure/Bylaws, document the organizational structure and routine activities of the MCHD. In addition, the collection contains background materials on the Colorado and Oregon Initiatives and Responses, as well as material collected to demonstrate the opposition's arguments, located in the Talking Points folder. The MCHD was active in and supported by several national organizations, and the collection contains materials reflecting assistance from the National Gay & Lesbian Task Force's (the Fight the Right Action Kit) and the Human Rights Campaign Fund, the nation's largest lesbian and gay rights advocacy organization, a non-profit group located in Washington, D.C.
