Background

Scope and Content:

Transcripts of interviews, with audio cassette originals and CD-ROM copies of the transcripts. Interviewees include Richard and Catherine Craig, David and Reatha Williams, and Malissa Brice. There are also photographs of the interviewees and of the church building.

Biographical / Historical:

The All Saints' Episcopal Church of Pontiac, Michigan, was organized in 1837 as Zion Episcopal Church. Rev. Algernon Hollister, then rector of St. John's in nearby Troy, was instrumental in founding the parish. The first liturgy was celebrated on September 24, 1837. The name of the church was changed from Zion Episcopal Church to All Saints' Episcopal Church.

In the early 2000s, the church conducted a number of oral history interviews with its Black members.
