Scope and Content:

The Cynthia L. Muñoz papers are comprised of materials related to the Muñoz and Ryba families. The collection includes correspondence from Muñoz's uncle "Ed" Ryba over the course of his time in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam War, an unpublished memoir written by Muñoz as part of the Immigrant Memoir Project, and family interviews and photographs.

Biographical / Historical:

Cynthia Muñoz was born in Detroit, Michigan on September 26, 1955 and identifies as half Mexican/Spanish and half Polish/Hungarian. She grew up in Southwest Detroit. After graduating from high school, Muñoz briefly enrolled at U-M Dearborn for a semester before dropping out to work at Michigan Bell. In 1985, Muñoz re-enrolled at U-M Dearborn. In 1995, she received an Outstanding Student award in Political Science and graduated in 2000 with a BA in Political Science and a minor in History. Muñoz continued her education, receiving another Outstanding Student award, this time in Education, and graduated with her MA in Education in 2006. As of 2021, Muñoz is a senior project manager for a Blue Cross Blue Shield subsidiary.
