The record group includes histories; minutes and correspondence; and posters, handbills and announcements; and papers relating to the dispute over how the organization should be funded.

Biographical / Historical:

PIRGIM was established in 1972 as a statewide, student-run, and student funded consumer action group. The focus of the group was on issues of energy, the environment, housing, human rights, and consumer reform. In the period of 1972-1981, PIRGIM has worked, and achieved some success, on such issues as a returnable bottle bill, toxic waste disposal controls, alternative energy, and a Freedom of Information Act.
