The collection consists of a photo of the Psi Upsilon house and group portraits of students.
Thomas Archer Huntington Brown—also known as Archer Brown—was born on March 7, 1851 in Otsego County, New York. He later moved to Flint, Mich. In 1868, enrolled in the University of Michigan. As a student, Brown served as an editor for the student publication University Chronicle and joined the Phi Chapter of the Psi Upsilon Fraternity. He received his A.B. in 1872.
After graduating, Brown moved to Cincinnati, Ohio and worked for the Cincinnati Daily Gazette. He served as the paper's managing editor from 1875-1880. In 1881, he and William A. Rogers co-organized the iron firm, Rogers, Brown, and Co. of Cincinnati. The business was extremely successful and expanded across the United States. Brown also became involved in a number of other iron business, such as the Empire Steel and Iron Company. By 1895, Brown had relocated back to New York to manage Rogers, Brown, and Co.'s eastern operations.
Brown engaged in other ventures. He authored a number of works over the course of his life, including Top or Bottom-Which? A Study of the Factors Which Most Contribute to the Success of Young Men. He also served as the president of the University of Michigan alumni club of New York City. Other organizations that he was involved with included the Orange, N.J. Young Men's Christian Association; Citizen's Union, East Orange; and the Lawyers' Club of New York, among others.
Archer Brown died in East Orange, N.J.) on September 23, 1904.
