Professor of anthropology at Wayne State University, active in issues and organizations specific to the Arab-American population of southeastern Michigan, particularly Dearborn, Michigan. Topical files document Arab and Arab-American culture and life. Organizational files document Aswad's involvement in such organizations as the Arab Community Center for Economic and Social Services and the American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee.

The papers of Barbara Aswad consist primarily of materials relating to her involvement and activism within the Arab-American communities of metropolitan Detroit. The bulk of the collection chronicles her associations with both national and community-based Arab-American organizations, most notably the Arab-American Community Center for Economic and Social Services (ACCESS) of Dearborn, Michigan. The collection has been divided into two series: Topical and Organizations.

Arab-American Politician and businesswoman from Dearborn, Michigan, and first Arab American elected to Dearborn City Council. Personal materials related to her political campaigns, community involvement, and city council service, as well as restaurant business papers and menus, and menu's from the Dearborn restaurant community.

The Suzanne Sareini Papers represent Ms. Sareini's involvement in the Dearborn community, her service on the Dearborn City Council, and her electoral campaigns for city council and state representative. Additionally represented are the restaurants owned by the Sareini family, and their role in the Dearborn restaurant community. This collection will be of particular interest to researchers interested in Dearborn politics and government, the Dearborn Arab-American community, and Dearborn restaurants in the 1990s and early 2000s.

The collection consists of two series: Professional Papers and Visual Materials. These series document William Gepford's efforts to bridge the Muslim and Christian faiths, both within his own ministry as well as international efforts. These efforts include seminars, interfaith worship services, and international initiatives. The collection also documents his everyday activities with the Presbyterian Church and interaction with the Detroit community.
