As its name implies, the Ann Arbor Cooperative Society was a cooperative corporation that offered its members a wide range of services. These included a credit union, legal and tax preparation services, home insulation and maintenance services, memorial advising and planning services, vacation property, discount ticket sales to amusement parks, and bulk purchasing. The records of the Society reflect its diverse activities, and include minutes, financial statements, audits, manager's reports, by-laws, news sheet, correspondence, and subject files relating to cooperative projects.

The records of the Ann Arbor Cooperative Society relate to its activities as a non-profit cooperative. While some material is extant documenting the early years, the majority of the record group is focused on the period from 1970-1983. Around a third of the available records are minutes to board meetings and financial statements, referring to the cooperative as a whole. The rest of the record group pertains to individual committees, projects, programs and activities.

This record group is excellent as a case study of a non-profit cooperative. The records provide information concerning the organization, its purpose, operation, finances and services. It is arranged in two series, Administrative Records and Board of Directors and Financial Records, with materials from the second accession incorporated into each of the series' files. While an attempt was made to place materials on specific activities and committees in separate topical -files, information concerning these can be found in the minutes of the board of directors, where all items concerning the cooperative society were discussed and reviewed.

The Kvaran papers are a rich source for information about the operation and unionization of the food co-op. The collection has been subdivided into two series: Michigan Federation of Food Co-op's The People's Wherehouse and The People's Wherehouse IWW Local 660. The first series contains information about the day-to-day operations of the warehouse and the eventual demise of the co-op. The latter series contains information about the union formed by the workers of the PWC. Included are the contract negotiations of the union, the by-laws and information about the legal battle between the Local 660 and the PWC management over unfair labor negotiations.

The Inter-Cooperative Council at Ann Arbor is an organization established to coordinate the activities of cooperative houses founded and operated by University of Michigan students. Their records are comprised of minutes, office files, and newsletters, as well as organization-level topices and related research. The collection also contains records of student cooperative, the Socialist House.

The records of the ICC at Ann Arbor cover the years 1932 to 2012 and are divided into ten series: Minutes, Office Files, Printed Materials, Events and Programs, Organizational Topical Files, Correspondence Files, Collected Research Materials, House Records, External Organizations, and Audio-Visual Materials.

Researchers should note that because of the differences between ICC office organizational systems and the individual processing archivists working on the collection, topics and materials might be found in multiple series.

The Law Library was established as part of the University of Michigan Law School in 1859 and is currently maintained and administered as a part of the instructional and research operation of the Law School. The collection contains documentation related to administrative matters within the Law Library, including financial documentation, correspondence, director files, and documentation on the building expansion of the library. The collection also contains some of the material removed from the collections at the library, as well as documentation related to the Law School, which was also previously housed in the library collections.

The material included in the Law Library records are primarily the files of the library directors and of Professor Hobart R. Coffey and Esther Betz. The material included in the Law Library records are divided into five series: Administration, Collections, Law School, Audio Visual Material, and William Cook Papers.

Records, 1932-1943, of the Michigan Cooperative Boarding House of the University of Michigan, a cooperative eating club for students that was reorganized in 1937 as the Michigan Wolverine Student Cooperative. Include minutes, reports, correspondence, financial records and print materials.

The records are organized in two main series: Records of the Michigan Cooperative Boarding House and Records of the Michigan Wolverine Student Cooperative, both of which comprise minutes, reports, correspondence and financial records. A third series, Miscellaneous, comprises a single oversize print of a tree of knowledge.
