The "pocket diaries" for the period 1864-1891 (missing 1866) include brief notations of daily activities.

The "travel diaries" (Boxes 6-7) include two types of writings: Winchell's extended accounts of his travels away from his family, written for their information, and his accounts of travels taken by the rest of his family without him, based on their letters, perhaps written to ease his separation from them.
