The Pre-Congressional Career series is organized into nine subseries: Personal, Correspondence, Education, Saul R. Levin Foundation, Photographs, Michigan Civil Rights Commission, Attorney, Lecturer, and Detroit City Council (DCC).
Records include early school, college, and law school notes and writings; materials relating to Levin's activities with Students for Democratic Action (SDA); correspondence from his trip abroad in the 1950s; photographs from childhood and early adult years; teaching materials; legal files from the Michigan Civil Rights Commission; correspondence, reports, press clippings, and investigative files from Levin's eight years of service on the Detroit City Council, including as president (1974-1977).
