The Chief Scientist's Logs, 1957-1979, were kept by the head research scientist on board each research vessel. They are a daily log of experimental activity; recording such information as location where samples were taken, where recording devices were turned on, meteorological conditions during experiments, etc. They are arranged by vessel and thereunder chronologically.
