These materials were donated to the library by Gunnar Birkerts in 2015, at the age of 91 years. He has kept these documents in his own home-studio in the Boston area through the decades because the folders contain information which has been very valuable to him. The 139 folders in his Personal Project Files are arranged alphabetically by building name and hold the kernal of design information, which Birkerts used for publiations in books and architectural journals. In these files, researchers will view only the materials which Birkerts himself felt were significant and strategic. These include the architect's concepttual sketches and presentation drawings, journal articles, dedication programs, newspaper clippings, and photographs, many by the renowned Balthazar Korab, who was Birkerts' good friend.
Each folder is accompanied by with a brief note describing folder contents.
