Because Robert lived in Coal Grove, Lawrence County, Ohio, much of their relationship until their marriage is documented in these letters. A related run of correspondence are the letters to Harlan from his wife, Anne Gregory, in January and February of 1943 while Harlan was serving as a V-5 instructor in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. Also of note are the letters between Harlan and his mother from 1919 to 1948.
