Subject Reference File, circa 1902-1966
Within the Subject Reference File, ca. 1902-1966 (1.75 linear feet), the researcher will find an assortment of materials mainly pertaining to Crane's interests and activities. Some of the files were probably originally created by Crane's father and uncle. These include, for example, the published essays of his uncle, Frank Crane, on different inspirational topics, and manuscripts of prayers probably authored by his father, Charles A. Crane.
Crane used the Subject Reference File for his notes from his years of seminary study and for his senior thesis, "Socialism and the Kingdom of God." Here also are files relating to specific Methodist Church activities, notably his work with the Methodist Federation for Social Action, 1945-1952, and his involvement in a crusade against vice when he pastored in Scranton, Pennsylvania in 1934.
