The collection begins with an accumulation of letters from distinguished individuals, including Andrew Jackson, William Lloyd Garrison, Wendell Phillips, and Charles Dickens. The provenance of these letters is unclear.
The Miscellaneous series brings together a variety of biographical information and some of Russell's writings related to the Anti-Saloon League and other topics. The autobiographical material in typed manuscript form gives a good idea of the type of man Russell was, and the issues which he considered most important. The miscellaneous writings primarily contain more autobiographical and biographical material. Miscellaneous manuscript material contains a wide variety of information ranging from penciled speech drafts to family deeds. The collection concludes with two folders of miscellanea concerning Anti-Saloon League financial matters, the annual report of the League for 1902, and a scrapbook of the "water wagon tour" that provides interesting photographs and an account of the tour.
