Information Technology Policy Committee/Special Committee (ITPCSPEC)
Information Technology Policy Committee-Special Charge (ITPCSPEC) (.25 linear feet, 1981-1994). In January 1993, provost and vice president for academic affairs, Gilbert Whitaker, assigned the ITPC a special charge. The charge was to provide advice on policy in support of the University's "electronic community." Specific issues the committee was asked to address included the role of electronic conferencing in research and teaching; computer access to illegal materials; security and privacy of electronic communication; management policies in relationship to access and use of information technology resources at the university. Committee membership consisted of a subset of the ITPC, one student representative and three committee consultants. The series contains the key documents produced by this specially charged committee including the charge to the committee, meeting minutes, and the final report written by the committee, Policies in Support of the University's Electronic Community.
