The Deputy Vice-Provost for Information Technology series (11.5 linear ft., 1982-1991) is arranged into three chronological subseries, reflecting the order in which they were maintained: 1982-1988; 1988-1990; 1990-1991. The files are arranged alphabetically. The material includes files on various ITD units, internal and external committees; projects; interactions with schools, colleges and administrators; budgets and budget planning; and further data on the IFS / IBM project. Many of the files contain computer printouts of electronic mail. Marks often conducted business and communicated with staff and colleagues via the network and maintained the records for paper files. The 1982-1988 subseries contains a file on strategic planning, 1986-1988, with drafts and documents that provide a succinct history of UM computing and an overview of the state of technology at the time.
