Interlochen Arts Festival
"Interlochen Arts Festival" (6), 1963-1975 with gaps, deals with the development of the professional summer program. Most concern Maddy's efforts to secure a major symphony orchestra, 1963-1965. Printed materials which further document festival events, 1964-1993, can be found in Printed-Interlochen "Camp.".
Interlochen Press
The institution's attempt to become a publisher and distributor of music is detailed in "Interlochen Press" (7), 1957-1976. It includes correspondence, minutes, and reports on the Press's active period, 1957-1962, as well as materials on the formal dissolution in 1976. Researchers will also want to consult Don Gillis in the Post-Maddy Administrators series.
International
"International" (8), 1940-1981, covers Interlochen's endeavors to broaden its outreach. It includes information on Maddy's Latin American contacts during World War II, foreign visitors and Campers, proposed tours by Interlochen groups, and the development of the World Youth Symphony. The bulk of the material consists of: (1) correspondence beginning in the mid 1950's on attempts to secure government funding for a European tour by Camp musicians and (2) records starting in the 1960's on efforts to develop an International (later World) Youth Symphony. The former includes letters from many prominent American political figures. For Interlochen's role in the creation of the National Music Camp of the Philippines, researchers should see Post-Maddy Administrators Wilson.
