Visual Materials: Motion Pictures

Motion Picture Films, circa 1930-1938, consist of 16 millimeter silent footage, both prints and negatives, probably taken by Maddy. A name index at the beginning of each portion will help guide researchers. With two exceptions (a Cherry Festival parade and Maddy's personal life), all are in black and white of Camp activities. Included are early promotional movies of the Camp based on privately shot footage, for which continuity was done commercially. In 1939, with funds provided by the State of Michigan, Camp films began being produced in sound by professionals. All the latter remain in the possession of Interlochen as is a copy of the 1940 Paramount film, "There's Magic in Music." Information about the various Camp promotional films can be found in Chronology Camp files, 1935-1945, under "publicity-movies" and in Subject Interlochen "Publicity" under "Internal" and in Subject Interlochen "Michigan" under "General/Legislature."
