The Walton series of cassettes consists of cassette tapes dubbed from discs or tapes which have now been digitized. It is organized in four groups:
Songs that Alan Lomax recorded in 1938 using suggestions and leads supplied by Ivan Walton (digital audio files SR001-045 and SR107-113). The majority of these songs were sung by John W. Green and recorded on Beaver Island, Michigan.
Songs that Walton recorded in 1938 (digital audio files SR095-106). This series includes songs mainly sung by Alfred Osborne of Port Huron, Michigan.
Songs that Walton recorded in 1940 (digital audio files SR046-094). This series includes songs sung by Beaver Island residents, John W. Green, Dominick Gallagher, and Patrick Bonner among others. Many of the songs sung and music played duplicate songs recorded by Alan Lomax two years previous.
Songs that Ivan Walton recorded throughout the 1950s (1952-1960) (SR127-133 and SR141-160) Again, Beaver Island is the site for many of the songs found in this series. John Green and Patrick Bonner are the principal performers.
