The Professional Files series is divided into nine subseries: Biographical, Avalon Housing, Inc., Shelter Association of Washtenaw County, St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, Washtenaw Housing Alliance, Turner African American Services Council, New Hope / University of Michigan Geriatric Clinic (now called the New Hope Outreach Clinic), Projects and Involvement, and Written Works. The series focuses on her involvement and day to day running of the organizations and encompasses her activities from her time as a student to her position at the University of Michigan's Institute of Gerontology.
Papers include organization meeting minutes, correspondence, notes, flyers, manuals, press articles, and personnel files, as well as other administrative papers and reports for the organizations she worked to establish, develop, and run. The Written Works subseries contains papers and articles written by or about Jane Barney. Also found here are speeches, papers relevant to her work with churches, marginalized ethnic and racial groups, and gerontology.
