The Biographical series contains a brief sketch of the life of Wells before and after his time working with the Michigan Central Railway Tunnel project.

The Approach to Tunnel series is comprised of images of railroad tracks and construction equipment located along the approach to the Michigan Central Railway Tunnel, as well as the construction yards for the tunnel project.

The Construction Sites and Workers series contains images of various construction workers, projects, and equipment that may not all be associated with the Michigan Central Railway Tunnel.

The River Construction series contains images of the tubes being assembled for the Michigan Central Railway Tunnel, as well as the barges in position to sink the tubes to the bottom of the river. The series features views of the tunnel's mouth and an image of the sinking of the first tube section.

The Other Photographs series is comprised of photographs of scenes not related to the Michigan Central Railway Tunnel. One photograph of note is an image of Kansas City's Union Station.
