The President's Supplemental Files series consists of material, frequently concerning major issues and initiatives of an administration, that were maintained in a filing system separate from the Topical File and the Schools and Colleges series. The Supplemental Files are organized by presidential administration and generally reflect the tenure of an individual president, but may include material from previous administrations.

Events
The Events sub-subseries, 2001-2008 (0.8 linear feet), includes files on several events including Salk Vaccine 50th Anniversary, online, the March 2003 Royal Shakespeare Company residency, a visit by the Dalai Lama, and perhaps most notable, September 11, 2001. The national tragedy involved airplanes crashing into the World Trade Center in New York, the Pentagon in Washington D.C., and in a field in Pennsylvania, was deeply devastating to the University of Michigan community. Students, faculty, and staff were affected by the tragedy, and eighteen alumni lost their lives in the attacks. The files contain materials on the university's response to the attacks, including the establishment of a scholarship fund for children of the alumni killed in the attacks that would be available if they chose to attend the University of Michigan.
