The Committees sub-subseries is arranged alphabetically by name of committee, and includes committees both internal and external to the university. The majority of the committees represented are external. Although the folders often contain only reports and administrative materials, they provide evidence of the involvement of the Michigan president in the wider fields of higher education, and state and national government, and can be an important resource when studying the major issues of the various administrations. Under the Shapiro administration, the university's involvement in assisting the state with developing a diversified economy can be traced in the files of the Industrial Technology Institute, particularly the Board of Directors and the Executive Committee materials, and in the files of the Michigan Commission on Jobs and Economic Development, and the Michigan High Technology Task Force.
