The Alliance for Undergraduate Education was formed in 1986 by a number of public research universities to develop and disseminate information about exemplary standards and practices in undergraduate education. Material in this subseries (1 linear foot) reflects those goals and includes information on the governance and administration of the Alliance as well as information on various programs in place at the University of Michigan and other universities in the Alliance. Michigan's representatives to the Alliance were Robert Holbrook, Mary Ann Swain, and Susan Lipschutz. In 1995 Michigan withdrew from the Alliance.

The Presidents' Council of the State Universities of Michigan (PCSUM) subseries, 1994-2004 (15 linear feet), serves as a forum for the presidents and chancellors of Michigan's fifteen public universities to discuss and frame positions on key higher education finance and policy issues. Its predecessor, the Michigan Council of State College Presidents was formed in 1952. Representatives from the Provost's Office attended meetings with other universities' representatives to evaluate and approve new academic programs. This series consists largely of the records of these program reviews, proposed by all of Michigan's universities, in numerical order.
