Knight v. State of Alabama, 1989-1994
Knight v. State of Alabama was a federal court case that challenged numerous funding and other policies of the state's colleges and universities on the grounds that they believed were racially discriminatory. Fleming was one of five neutral expert witnesses appointed by the court to assist it in fashioning a constructive remedial decree. These experts reviewed the policies found to perpetuate segregation in Alabama's colleges and universities and recommended changes to reduce racial separation in the system. These are Fleming' files from his work on that committee.
