Cultural Awareness and Diversity Education
The Cultural Awareness and Diversity Education series documents the University Housing's efforts to improve the residential experience for minority students and foster a multicultural environment within University Housing facilities. The records were collected by Robbie Townsel-Ransom, who worked in University Housing from the late 1980s through 2011 and whose titles included Director of the Office of Cultural Awareness and Diversity Education and Coordinator of Project Awareness. The records have been divided into four sub-series: Administrative, Campus Organizations, Publicity, and Events.
Administrative, 1972-2009
0.5 linear feet
The Administrative sub-series (1972-2009; 0.5 linear feet) includes reports, statistics, policies, and summaries, most of them commissioned by University Housing, in regards to diversity and multicultural initiatives. Reports make up the bulk of the sub-series and include those on the Blavin Scholars Program, an assessment and history of the cultural lounges, diversity within the university, University Housing students and staff, housing special programs monthly reports, minority student and staff reports, two residence hall satisfaction surveys, a Residence Hall Multicultural Council study, and university housing annual reports. Most of these reports were commissioned to assess diversity in University Housing and the effectiveness of programs created to encourage diversity. Other components of this sub- series include discriminatory incident summaries, information on discrimination policies, a University Housing interview with artist John Lockard, and correspondence on the Michigan Civil Rights Initiative.
