The records in the Development Office Topical File, divided into Historical Files and an Alphabetical Subject File, reflect the curious history of this unit. The Development Office was originated and funded by the Development Council, a group of volunteer alumni organized to raise funds to support the university. Only after the initiation of the $55 Million Campaign in 1964 did this office become clearly associated with the vice president, developing into a central clearing office for all university fundraising projects.
