The Personal series (2 folders) is the one to which the researcher should turn to learn about the many phases of Lucas's career. It contains biographical materials in the form of articles, resumes, membership certificates, and promotional materials on several of his children. One of the more interesting documents is a 1970 questionnaire filled out by Lucas for the Manhattan College Magazine. In it he discusses his collegiate experiences and how they shaped the principles and philosophies which guided him later in life. The series also contains materials related to Lucson Petroleum Corporation, of which Lucas was an original incorporator. The corporation was in the oil refining and distributing industry.

The Wayne County Offices series (1 linear foot) is divided into two subseries, one for each of the major county offices Lucas held, sheriff and county executive. They are arranged alphabetically by topic. The sheriff subseries contains materials which mostly pertain to major incidents which occurred while Lucas was in office. They include the battle between Lucas and Wayne County Commissioners over elimination of the Patrol and Investigation Division, and the "Rochester Incident" which involved a shootout between Wayne County sheriffs and Detroit policemen. There is also a very interesting transcript of the "Pingree Street Conspiracy Trial" of 1975, in which Detroit policemen and private citizens were tried for the sale of narcotics and conspiracy to obstruct justice.

In the county executive subseries, five folders of manuscript materials contain scattered documents on Lucas's tenure. The correspondence file includes Lucas's responses to a variety of constituent concerns, and the interoffice memos provide a cursory look at media strategy, and budget and union contract issues during Lucas's first months in office. The researcher will note newsclippings and videotapes relating Lucas' work as Wayne County executive are filed in the Clippings and Tapes series. They are extremely important to any study of Lucas as county executive.
