He describes the Blue Ridge Mountains region while on a march, speaks of the monotony of camp life, describes winter quarters near Fredericksburg, mentions a box from home, comments on home news and the men in his company, tells of a boat trip from Fredericksburg to Newport News, of their new camp, and of purchasing oysters.
