McCollough was a Democratic State Representative for the Michigan House of Representatives representing the 16th District (Wayne County) from 1954 to 1964, and the 31st District (Wayne County) from 1964 to 1982. McCollough's papers comprise her legislative work and involvement with issues surrounding education, senior citizens, and property taxes. Collection also highlights many other bills she introduced, her campaign efforts with her son, Senator Patrick McCollough, and her relationships with her constituents.

Lucinda Hinsdale Stone (1814-1900) was a Kalamazoo, Michigan, activist, educator, feminist, and writer who supported the abolition of enslaved persons, coeducation, education for women, and women's suffrage. She also founded and/or supported numerous Michigan women's study clubs and organizations. Stone's advocacy work also resulted in the enrollment of female students at the University of Michigan, which began in 1870. Of great importance are the scrapbooks maintained by Lucy Chapin on the people and events of Ann Arbor and Washtenaw County. These scrapbooks document life in the nineteenth century from the 1840s to 1900. The volumes include clippings, programs, photographs, and memorabilia.
