The Floyd Starr series (54.8 linear feet) contains correspondence, papers, notes, and audiovisual materials related to Floyd Eliot Starr, the founder and first president of Starr Commonwealth. The materials highlight the growth of Starr Commonwealth, the operations of the organization, and Floyd Starr's personal passion and dedication to juvenile reform. The Floyd Starr series has been divided into three subseries, the Correspondence subseries, the Papers subseries and the Audiovisual materials subseries.

The Audio/Visual materials subseries contains audiocassettes, videocassettes, and digital files featuring Floyd Starr. Materials include a copy of Starr's inspirational Christmas story, "The Little Builder of Christmas Fires", his appearance on the Edward R. Murrow show title "This I Believe" and other recordings of his quotes, beliefs and dictated letters.

The Organizational Records series consists of materials documenting or supporting the work of the organization, both on and off the island. This includes copies of FILA newsletters, presentation files, fact sheets about the island and its buildings, and the Historic Structure Report prepared by U.P. Engineers and Architects (which provides a history of the light station in addition to descriptions and recommendations for its buildings and structures) as well as collected news articles about the organization's work and the history of the light station.
