The Ann Cook records consist of two series: Printed Materials and Photographs. The Printed Materials include a book written by Olive Chernow, director of Martha Cook Building from 1973-1979, and a news clipping about the building.

The Photographs series includes various photographs of the interior and exterior of the Martha Cook Building, during and after construction. Photographers include the George R. Fuller Company, Daines and Nickel, and A. B. Bogart. Photographs are arranged by photographer or size, and the box listing provides a description of each photograph.

Papers of Ann Heler, a resident of Ferndale, Mich., who was a leader of the gay and lesbian community. Heler also participated in the Gay Games, a cultural event for the purpose of unity and identity within the national and international gay and lesbian community.

The collection largely documents Ann Heler's involvement in the Gay Games during the 1990's. The emphasis of these sporting events was to help the Gay and Lesbian Community establish a global unity and strengthen their identity. The Papers of Ann Heler are arranged into two series: Personal Records, and Other Materials, and one outsize folder.

The collection was created and collected by an officer of the Association of Suburban People who wishes to remain anonymous. It contains legal papers, correspondence, and other official records of the Association of Suburban People, but concentrates on the organization's social activities.

Photographs, flyers, and posters from Hottest Hairy or Hairless Chest Contests, Halloween Contests, and Club Nites are included, events held at the Interchange, the Outlaw, the R & R Saloon, and other Detroit area gay bars.

The collection also includes a collection of matchbooks and matchboxes from gay bars, restaurants, baths, and other businesses in Detroit and surrounding areas, elsewhere in Michigan and Ontario, and to a lesser extent nationwide. A collection of buttons is also included, mainly Detroit gay-related but some from national organizations.

This collection was processed by Douglas M. Haller, ASP Information Officer, 1980-1981. An item listing of the collection with extensive explanatory notes by the processor is appended to this finding aid in the "Additional Descriptive Data" section.
