This collection is comprised of contracts, dated 1799 and 1801, signed by Henry Dearborn and James McHenry, U.S. Secretary of War, for distributing food rations to various army posts, including Detroit and Michilimackinac.

Other portions of the collection include lectures, publications, and topical files relating to professional affiliations and the University of Michigan School of Education. There are also some photographs and papers of L. Elizabeth Reed Dunham relating to her organizational activities.

The collection is noteworthy for a detailed description of the Battle of Morris Island in South Carolina during the summer of 1863.

The Fred W. Green collection is comprised of correspondence, scrapbooks, speeches, photographs, postcards, and miscellaneous other materials. Some of the correspondence covers the period when Green was at Santa Clara, Cuba in 1899, but the bulk of the letters fall within the period of his gubernatorial service.

Materials on agriculture, resort property in northern Michigan, tariffs, American neutrality prior to World War II, and Lutheran Church-sponsored resettlement of refugees and displaced persons after World War II; also photographs.
