Students at the University of Michigan College of Literature, Science, and the Arts (Class of 1915). Scrapbooks containing photographs, dance cards, grade report cards, event programs, objects, and other materials reflecting on the U-M student life and activities. Also, World War I-period correspondence.

The Harry G. Gault scrapbook and loose materials contain dance cards; post cards; a hand-drawn portrait of what appears to be Gault (artist unknown); photographs of past U-M presidents (Angell and Hutchins), 1911-1912 freshman and sophomore games, Adelphi Club, the Eremites Club, the 1912 CAP Night event-a large gathering in which freshmen transitioned into sophomores by throwing their grey caps into a bonfireth, the Griffins, the Michigamua upper class all-campus honor societies, the Sphinx Fraternity, and the Senior Swing Out exercises which incorporates the first wearing of the cap and gown prior to graduation.

His scrapbook also contains photographs of U-M sporting events, dances, the 1915 Lit Class, the Michigan Daily editorial office, and the Phi Delta Phi House. Of note is a non-descript group photograph including Gault (seated 3rd from left) and what appears to be an unidentified man of color (standing 2nd row, 2nd from right). Additional materials include a May 1, 1913 Griffins initiation certificate; a 1915/1916 poster titled Comparative Standings of Sororities and Fraternities and their House Clubs; newspaper clippings, report cards, wartime correspondence, obituaries, and other memorabilia depicting student life at U-M.

The Alice Wiard Gault scrapbook and loose materials include dance cards; programs (including football programs); menus; ribbons; photographs of dances including the 1916 J-Hop, women students, sorority house interiors; report cards; invitations; personal notes; place cards; and ticket stubs. Other items to note include a November 9, 1912 handwritten speech from the 1915 Sophomore Toast (authored by Alice?); newspaper clippings including one titled Sisters Announce Engagement-announcing Wiard's engagement to Boy Kennnedy. The handwriting beneath reads: "As near as I ever came to the fatal step." The scrapbook contains additional memorabilia depicting her life at U-M.

Varsity athlete, 1921-1924, and head football coach, 1929-1937, at the University of Michigan. Papers include football playbooks, scrapbooks detailing his athletic career, and photograph album of Kipke, university scenes, and athletic events.

The Kipke papers document his career as a high school athlete in Lansing, Michigan; as a varsity football, basketball and baseball player at the University of Michigan; and as head football coach at the University of Michigan. The collection include football playbooks, scrapbooks detailing his athletic career, game films from the 1933 season, a football instructional film, and photograph album of Kipke, university scenes, and athletic events. This collection consists of photographs of campus buildings, the interior of a dental lab, and an image of temperance advocate Carry Nation during a visit to Ann Arbor in 1902.

African American revolutionary communist and theoretician of Black nationalism, joined Communist Youth League in 1923 and later communist Party U.S.A., studied at Lenin Institute and worked for the Comintern, member of the Abraham Lincoln Brigade in Spanish Civil War, author of Black Liberation (1948) and Black Bolshevik (1977). Papers include correspondence, speeches, text and notes for his writing and Communist Party material.

The papers of Harry Haywood consist of two linear feet of materials dating from 1928 to 1985. The collection is arranged topically. It is divided into eight series, including: Autobiography; Articles and Manuscripts; Communist Party Material; Black Conditions and Responses; Speeches and Presentations; Correspondence; Book Contracts and Reviews; and Notes, Fragments and Miscellanea.

Career military officer, served in the Philippines ca. 1900-1913, chief of the Philippine Constabulary, 1907-1913; papers include correspondence, constabulary reports, diaries, topical files, visual materials, and scrapbooks.

The Bandholtz collection, covering the period of ca. 1890 to 1925 (with some later papers of his wife Inez Bandholtz), consists mainly of materials accumulated while Bandholtz was stationed in the Philippines, 1900-1913. Except for this time in the Far East, Bandholtz was always on the move with ever changing assignments, and consequently his files covering his work on the Mexican border, for example, or the 1921 West Virginia coal miners strike (also known as the Battle of Blair Mountain) are substantially thinner. But in the Philippines, because he was a provincial governor and head of the indigenous military force, Bandholtz was at the center of affairs in this period of Philippine history. And beyond that, he made an effort to maintain and preserve as much documentation from his service here as he could.

The Bandholtz papers came to the library in three separate accessions in 1965, 1994 and 2005. The first accession includes the following series: Correspondence (1899-1913), Invitations, Miscellaneous, Published Materials, and Philippine Constabulary Reports (1906-1913). The second accession includes the following series: Biographical-Personal, Correspondence (1895-1925), Diaries (1900-1923), Topical Files, Visual Materials, Scrapbooks, and Inez Bandholtz papers. Although there is some overlap (especially in the two Correspondence series), the two accessions have been kept separate, and not interfiled, so that researchers who examined the first accession might read from the new material without having to go through the entire collection. This encoded finding aid treats the correspondence as a single series although it has not been interfiled. the third accession consists of correspondence (1903-1912), chiefly confidential letters between Bandholtz and Luke Wright and Leonard Wood, concerning major military an political issues in the Philippines.

Professional files relating to membership on board of directors of Amtrak, his work as chairman of the rules and credentials committee of the National Women's Conference, 1975, and as member of the executive committee of the Association of American Law Schools; also other files concerning his interest in labor arbitration cases, and his involvement in problems of affirmative action and minority rights at the University.

The Harry T. Edwards papers primarily document his tenure ad a board member and chairman of the board of AMTRAK. There are also files on University of Michigan Law School affairs and several labor arbitration cases in which Edward's participated. Other activities documented include his work as chairman of the rules and credentials committee of the National Women's Conference, 1975, and as member of the executive committee of the Association of American Law Schools; also other files concerning his interest in labor arbitration cases, and his involvement in problems of affirmative action and minority rights at the University.

Detroit, Michigan, African American church. Files concern church governance and policies; church committees and other organizations; and church events, celebrations, and services; also include publications and topical files with information on pastors Charles Hill and Charles Adams.

The records of Hartford Baptist Memorial Church are arranged in seven series: Church Governance and Policies, Committees and Other Church Organizations, Events and Celebrations, Services, Topical Files, Publications and Miscellaneous. Covering the years 1922 to the present, the records document the ongoing work of the church. The bulk of the records date from the 1970s, with sparse documentation for the years 1930 to 1959.

The Harvey Brazer papers provide some documentation of his research activities and service on various university committees and in professional organizations. The files include correspondence, memoranda, reports and other material relating research on taxation, government expenditure and tax policy and his participation in a number of study commissions and citizens organizations including the Census Advisory Committee on State and Local Government Statistics, 1967-1969, Citizens' Income Tax Study Committee of Detroit, 1960-1961 and the National Committee on Tax Justice, 1969- 1970 .
