The James B. Edmonson collection contains material relating to the career and personal interests of this educator. The collection is organized in five series: Biographical/Personal containing biographical sketches, bibliographies, photographs, and files relating to his involvement with the University of Michigan Presbyterian Corporation; Topical files consisting mainly of writings by Edmonson, correspondence, reports, essays, and other materials on education related subjects, including intercollegiate athletics, the Canada-United States Committee on Education, so-called "diploma mills", and issues affecting secondary school education; selection of term reports from classes taught by Edmonson; textbooks and other publications of Edmonson; and files, 1942-1945, relating to his work with the University War Board

James Bennett Griffin was one of the major forces in the development of North American archaeology and served as the director of the Museum of Anthropology at the University of Michigan from 1946 to 1975. The papers contain correspondence, extensive research and photograph files on North American archaeological sites, cultures and artifacts, and information on Griffin's writing, professional activities, and teaching within the University of Michigan Department of Anthropology.

The James B. Griffin Papers are a rich source of information about Griffin's life, the history of the Museum of Anthropology at the University of Michigan, archaeological sites and topics, particularly in North America, and the overall development of the field of North American archaeology from the 1930s to the 1990s. The papers consist of 16 series: Biographical and Personal; Student Years; Correspondence, 1930-1975; Correspondence, 1975-1997; Radiocarbon Laboratory; Teaching and Advising; Conferences and Symposia; Professional Associations and Affiliations; Speaking Engagements; Travel and International Initiatives; Writings and Publications; Hopewell; Topical Files; Archaeological Sites and Projects; North American Archaeology Card Files; and Photographs.

Soldier from Detroit, Mich., member of Co. E, 339th U.S. Infantry who served in the Allied intervention in Russia, 1918-1920, the "Polar Bear Expedition." Collection includes diary of service in Russia, Nov.7, 1918-Jan.14, 1919 and other war-related papers.

The papers include a diary, Nov. 1918-Jan. 1919, describing daily life, monotony, the weather, and fighting at Kodish, Dec. 1918. Also included are newspaper clippings, miscellanea, and photographs. Also artifacts: helmet, shell casing trench art (75 mm), 37 mm shell, VFW Post 436 cap, and uniform insignia. (The photographs and artifacts have not been digitized.)

The James C. Watson collection consists of correspondence with astronomers, University of Michigan colleagues, and other scientists and inventors; professional papers, travel journals of trips to Alaska, China, Sicily, Egypt and Arabia; and files of astronomical observations and calculations, mainly pertaining to asteroids. This collection of pamphlets and reprints of the writings of James C. Wood was gathered together from different sources. The collection is arranged alphabetically by title.

James Edward Davis is a teacher who has worked within the Dearborn Public School District, Michigan since he graduated from the University of Michigan. He has been active politically, especially in regards to teacher's rights, and within Michigan churches. The collection contains series of personal biographical papers, family papers, as well as his collected materials from local churches and schools.

Materials include Davis family history, his father's reminiscences of life in Clinton, Michigan, and relating to the United Church of Christ of Clinton, and some personal and biographical papers; pamphlets and flyers relating to student political activities at the University of Michigan; collected materials about local Michigan churches, many of them in Dexter, Mich.; collected materials about Dearborn Public Schools system and schools in Michigan.

The Harbour collection concerns his work as an analyst of the automobile industry. In addition to copies of The Harbour Report, the collection includes newspaper and magazine articles written by Harbour or containing references to him, and files pertaining to his participation at automobile related conferences. Also of interest are various promotional and related materials surrounding the publication of his book Factory Man.

Copies of photographs and other documents of James E. Kean, who served with the 167th Company Transportation Corps, sent to Murmansk, Russia at the end of World War I, part of the "Polar Bear Expedition."

Detroit, Michigan, newspaper publisher. Papers of Scripps and of the James E. Scripps Trust established to ensure that control of Scripps's Evening News Association would remain with his immediate family. Series in the collection include: biographical material, notably unpublished biography and personal diaries, 1858-1868 and 1872-1881; business records of various Scripps newspapers and publishing companies; George H. Scripps probate records; and James E. Scripps trust records. Also, European journals by Scripps' wive, Harriet Josephine Scripps.

This collection contains both the personal papers of James E. Scripps and the records of the thirty-year trust he created shortly before his death in 1906. This collection is divided into four series: Biographical Materials, Business Records, George H. Scripps Probate Records, and James E. Scripps Trust Records. The bulk of this collection concerns the running of the Evening News Association. The records of the Evening News Association, the James E. Scripps Corporation, and the James E. Scripps Trust, with related litigation materials, attest to the complexity of this Detroit newspaper operation. Two European journals in the Biographical Materials series belong to Scripps' wife, Harriet Josephine Scripps. The journals contain information about the Scripps family, including relations with James Scripps' sister, Ellen Browning Scripps, who was a journalist and a philanthropist, and the founding donor of the Scripps College.
