Collections

The Ronald R. Stockton collection consists of various writings, most on topics relating to his research and teaching interests. These topics include Arab American relations, religion, historical and genealogical subjects, and articles about Kenya.

In 2000, Ronald Stockton began a journal which was intended to be read by his descendents. In it, he wrote of his daily activities interspersed with reflections on current events. In his journal, Stockton wrote of his daily activities interspersed with reflections on current events. This journal dates from 2000 to 2005 and continues with 2010. This journal is currently closed to research until 2025.

The collection consists of photograph postcards, which were probably commissioned by the State Mutual Cyclone Insurance Company of Lapeer, Michigan, showing damage to land and property as a result of a June 6, 1917 cyclone.

Letters written to Rosanna Covey by her husband and by her brothers Alfonzo (Company K, 13th Michigan Infantry), Hiram and Jordin Covey (both of Company C, 70th New York Infantry); and her cousins Eleazer (Company A, 11th Michigan Infantry) and Israel Covey (Company B, 44th Illinois Infantry); also letters from John Slover (Company B, 17th Michigan Infantry). The letters describe camp life, battles, and other military activities. One letter by Hiram Covey describes the First Battle of Bull Run.

Correspondence and other materials relating to state and local Republican party affairs, particularly the election of 1944 and the Constitutional Convention, 1961-1962; organizational files, primarily concerning activities with the Rotary Club, the Free and Accepted Order of Masons, the National Music Camp at Interlochen, the American Bar Association, the First Presbyterian Church of Ann Arbor, the Historical Society of Michigan, Cleary College, Dickinson College in Carlisle, Pennsylvania, and the Wayne State University Board of Governors; and photographs.

The Roscoe Bonisteel collection dates largely after 1950, when Bonisteel had already reached an age at which most men retire. Because of this, many of Bonisteel's activities are either poorly documented or altogether absent from his papers. Despite this, the papers do contain some illuminating material.

The collection is divided into ten series: biographical and personal, colleges and universities, financial, historical organizations, legal, Masons, political, Presbyterian Church, Rotary, and Photographs.

Rose Cook McClurkin Beatty was an alumna of the University of Michigan (Class of 1900). Consists of photos of McClurkin with classmates and in her room.

Klein's unbound scrapbook has wooden covers. It contains materials documenting the 1942 J-Hop, student publications including the Beta Banner, and correspondence. Of note is a letter to her from an older male student explaining how to behave in college. The scrapbook also contains photographs, postcards, programs, newspaper clippings, cards, playbills, report cards, and graduation commencement materials.

Rosemary Mason Ogden was a Romeo, Michigan Republican Party worker and a publicity chairperson of the Republican Women's Federation of Michigan. Correspondence, typescripts of writings, speeches, and other materials.

The Rose Parker Kleinman papers are almost entirely those from her years in Detroit and are limited in quantity (2 linear feet). They can be used by the researcher interested in compiling a short biographical study of the last twenty years of her life, or in the activities of one of the many white liberals in Detroit in the 1960s who promoted racial equality. They provide an introduction to the cooperative movement as a whole and in the state of Michigan in the 1960s and 1970s, and to the activities of one of the leaders in the field. Finally, the papers on low-income, open housing organizations in Detroit in the 1960s and 1970s can provide a limited supplement to those found in other libraries, such as the Mayor's Papers in the Burton Library in Detroit. There is very little in the collection, however, on Kleinman's efforts to have established the Michigan State Housing Authority. The researcher should approach the collection with the understanding that no one area or organization can be studied in depth, but that the character, ideas, and personality of Rose Kleinman are evident throughout the collection.

Professor of business economics in the University of Michigan School of Business Administration. Copies of radio commentaries, "Business Review," 1960-1981; papers relating to newspaper column, "Inside Business"; speeches and essays; correspondence, 1971-1982; and photographs and miscellaneous.

The Ross Wilhelm papers (1925-1982) date principally from 1960 to 1982 and measure three linear feet. The papers document Wilhelm's radio program "Business Review" and other aspects of his professional career.

Residents of Highland Township, Oakland County, Michigan. Civil War reminiscences and other papers of James D. Rowe, soldier in the 1st Michigan Cavalry; Civil War letters of Spencer D. Lee, related family member, also in the 1st Michigan Cavalry; business records of Grant and Carrie Jackson Rowe, publishers of the Milford Times; sermons of Samuel Simpson Marquis as transcribed by Mrs. G. S. Rowe; collected materials largely concerning Milford and Highland Township history; and miscellaneous photographs and Civil War print.

The collection is divided into three series: Rowe Family Papers, Milford Historical Materials, and Milford Times Records. The bulk of the collection consists of correspondence, genealogical material and reminiscences relating to the Rowe family. The Civil War years are particularly well documented in letters written by in-laws: William Putnam, brother of Helen; the wife of James Rowe; and Spencer Lee, who married Helen's sister, Sarah. The Milford Times Records series contains business correspondence and records of the Milford Times, a newspaper published and edited by members of the Rowe family from 1890 to 1950. Carrie Jackson Rowe, who ran the Times for 46 years with her husband, Grant, was interested in Highland County local history; her writings on historical topics, as well as the historical documents she collected, form the Milford Historical Materials series.
