The papers of Linda Strodtman relate primarily to her work with diabetic patients at the University of Michigan Hospitals and to her more general involvement with Clinical Nurse Specialists (CNS) during the years, 1970-1985. There is scant material on Strodtman's personal life. There are few documents in the collection relating to her research and teaching duties.

What the collection does document is Strodtman's work with diabetic patients, her involvement with the Michigan Diabetes Research and Training Center (MDRTC) and Diabetes Center Unit (DCU), and her activities as a CNS. The arrangement of the papers represents a blend of Strodtman's original order and description and series ordered by the processors. While this hybrid arrangement seeks to highlight aspects of her career, the researcher should note that series divisions are not absolute; some materials in the CNS series may relate to the MDRTC and vice versa.

The researcher is advised to be flexible and persistent in using the Strodtman collection; related materials are in separate and distinct areas of the collection. The Michigan Diabetes Research and Training Center group contains administrative files, meeting minutes, and planning documentation related to the establishment and operations of the university's Michigan Diabetes Research and Training Center (MDRTC) from 1976-1998. The MDRTC is one of a nationwide system of diabetes research and training centers designed to support research in diabetes and its management, train researchers and care-givers, and establish model-care units.

The Michigan Diabetes Research and Training Center records date from 1976 to 1998 and measure 4 linear feet. The Michigan Diabetes Research and Training Center group contains administrative files, meeting minutes, and planning documentation related to the establishment and operations of the university's Michigan Diabetes Research and Training Center (MDRTC) from 1976-1998. The records are arranged into three series, reflecting the center's three main programs: Administrative and Research Development and Training Program, Training and Demonstration Program (Diabetes Center Unit [DCU]), and Continuing Education and Outreach Program.

Stefan S. Fajans was a Professor of Internal Medicine at the University of Michigan Medical School from 1949-1988 and active Professor Emeritus of Internal Medicine until 2014. The collection includes personal correspondence during his time in the U.S. Army Medical Corps in World War II, as well as materials related to his professional activities and interests, including patient records, correspondence, lectures, manuscripts and other topical files related to his research on diabetes, especially Maturity Onset Diabetes of the Young (MODY).

The Stefan S. Fajans papers are comprised of personal correspondence with his family while in the U.S. Army Medical Corps during World War II as well as a wide range of materials documenting his professional life. The latter are a rich source for his research on Maturity Onset Diabetes of the Young (MODY) and its associated genetic markers. The Stefan S. Fajans papers are divided into two series: Personal Correspondence and Professional Files.

A small number of publications for which no creating organization is discernible are listed at the end of this finding aid by title. These publications include a number of student newsletters and campus guides. Major continuing units are represented as well as smaller and defunct units.

Some university publications have been individually cataloged and exist in their own record groups. As this collection serves as an unprocessed drop box for university publications, not all units will be represented.
