Papers, 1925-1979, of Charles L. Stevenson, professor of philosophy at the University of Michigan, and his wife, Louise Destler Stevenson. Correspondence with philosophers George E. Moore and Ludwig Wittgenstein; Stevenson-Destler courtship letters; student letters from Yale in the 1920's; also manuscripts and lecture notes on philosophy; diaries of Louise Stevenson; draft of her novel; and sermon books 1841, 1845-1846 of his great grandfather, the Rev. Isaac D. Williamson, New York state clergyman.

The Charles L. Stevenson papers consist of his student notebooks from Yale, Cambridge and Harvard Universities; course materials and notes for his lectures in philosophy courses at the University of Michigan and professional correspondence, including letters with Ludwig Wittgenstein and George E. Moore; professional writings; and personal and family papers. Reminiscences, 1889-1909, relating in part to his activities as clerk of the U.S. Senate Committee on the District of Columbia, and including his impressions of U.S. Senators and prominent architects and artists; scrapbook of postcards depicting European scenes and art work; scrapbooks of correspondence and clippings, 1921-1922, largely concerning his biography of architect, Daniel H. Burnham; correspondence with friends, artists, editors, learned societies; articles, addresses, miscellaneous papers, and photographs.

The Moore collections include reminiscences, 1889-1909, relating in part to his activities as clerk of the U.S. Senate Committee on the District of Columbia, and including his impressions of U.S. Senators and prominent architects and artists; scrapbook of postcards depicting European scenes and art work; scrapbooks of correspondence and clippings, 1921-1922, largely concerning his biography of architect, Daniel H. Republican State Highway Commissioner, 1943-1957. Correspondence, scrapbooks and other papers concerning the highway department, Republican politics, and his interest in the Michigan Republican League, the Michigan Indian Foundation, and the construction of the Mackinac Bridge; also photographs.

The collections includes the following series of papers: Correspondence; Campaign and Republican Party Activities; Michigan Highway Department; Topical files and miscellaneous; and Scrapbooks and clippings. Much of the correspondence relates to his first campaign in 1943 for Highway Commissioner.

Professor of history and Chinese language at the University of Michigan; professional papers relating to his work with the Association for Asian Studies; also articles, essays, and speeches.

The Charles O. Hucker collection consists of manuscript materials, covering a period from 1949 to 1982. The collection is arranged into four major series. These include the American Council of Learned Societies, the Association for Asian Studies, Editorial Notes and Correspondence, and Writings, Speeches, and Related. By far the largest series is the Association for Asian Studies. The manuscripts in this series reflect Professor Hucker's participation in various committees, on the Board of Directors, and as a member of the Ming Biographical Dictionary and the Ming Biographical History Project.

13 letters written to his parents and his wife while he was serving in Company I, 3rd Michigan Cavalry, 1861-62. He tells of life in camps Anderson and Benton in St. Louis, comments on officers, quarters, slowness in equipping the cavalry units, picket duty, weather, and poisoned food sold to the soldiers by citizens. He describes the train trip to St. Louis, the use of balloons, and a Washington's birthday celebration. Much of each letter is given to religious reflections.

Charles ("Charlie") Rasch was a professional pianist, talented photographer, and graduate of the University of Michigan. The collection contains scrapbooks, photographs, and negatives documenting his life in Michigan. The majority of photographs and negatives are labeled with the date and location.

The Charles Rasch Collection (23 oversize volumes and 5 linear feet) is primarily composed of photographs and negatives documenting Michigan scenery. There is particularly strong coverage of Birmingham, MI, Harsen's Island, MI, the Island Lake Recreation Area in Brighton, MI, and the Bald Mountain Recreation Area in Oakland, MI. Many of these photographs, especially his early black and white work, display his artistic training and sensibilities. Rasch's scrapbooks also offer a rich representation of the ragtime music scene in Michigan and the Ann Arbor area. This collection is also notable for the care Rasch took to annotate his photographs. Many negatives and prints are individually labeled, and all include some information relating to the date and location.

The Jones collection consists of correspondence, minutes, newspaper clippings, printed materials, photographs, and a transcript of the debate between Samuel Dickie and David S. Rose, 1909. Correspondents include: Neal Dow, James H. Ferriss, Benjamin O. Flower, Anna A. Gordon, Virgil G. Hinshaw, Robert H. Patton, Charles Scanlon, George K. Turner and John G. Woolley.

The Charles Spoor papers include deeds, receipts, and other documents relating to land transactions in Ann Arbor and Mount Clemens, Michigan. Some involve early settlers of the towns, including Christian Clemens and other members of the Spoor family.
