The Correspondence series is dated 1917-1919 and 1928-1955, and consists of original letters and typescripts of letters. This series is composed mainly of personal family letters; letters of Wilfrid Haughey written to his wife and children while serving as an army surgeon in France in World War I; and letters of his children to Haughey and his wife while they were attending the University of Michigan or serving in World War II. The letters are full of information about the activities of the family members.

Correspondence

The Correspondence series (0.75 linear feet) includes Haviland's exchanges with readers of the A is A Newsletter and other libertarian publications, who suggested titles for inclusion in Haviland's directory of libertarian press and articles to reprint. Also included here is Haviland's correspondence with authors, compilers, editors, and publishers of libertarian periodicals and catalogs. Haviland kept separate folders to hold his exchanges with some individuals, but the majority of his correspondence was organized in alphabetical order. Named files include correspondence with Mitchell Jones, editor of The New Individualist, Ralph Fucetola III, one of the editors of The Abolitionist, William Van Doren, The Diode editor and publisher; among others.

The letters are brief and informal in nature, discussing their families as well as professional concerns. The correspondence includes soliciting and offering opinions on equipment and supplies used in mineralogy studies, arranging to be at events, and correspondence between Kraus and his publishers. Later correspondence also includes letters related to administering his departments at the University of Michigan and to his church.
