Correspondence, topical files, photographs, and printed material relating to the operation and activities of the department, primarily after 1960 during the administrations of Warner Rice, Russell A. Fraser, John L. Styan, Jay L. Robinson, John R. Knott, Robert Weisbuch, and Martha Vicinus; also include scattered files before 1960 and after 1979.

The bulk of the records of the Department of English Language and Literature are from the years 1960 to 1979 and generally coincide with the chairmanships of Warner Rice, Russell Fraser, John Styan, and Jay Robinson. The records primarily document the internal workings of the department and its relationship with other units in the university. The majority of the records were created by the department itself and consist of minutes of committee and faculty meetings, correspondence, department reviews, course outlines, position requests, and newsletters and publications.

The records of the Department of English Language and Literature are divided into seven series: Correspondence, Topical Files, Photographs, Executive Committee, Chair's Files, Presentations, and Faculty Files.

The University of Michigan Department of Family Medicine was founded as the Department of Family Practice in 1978. The department provides education to graduates in family medicine, operates family practice centers in Michigan as part of the residency program, and conducts research. Material includes accreditation and annual reports, correspondence, departmental reviews, residency training material, photographs, publications, topical files, and web archives.

The Department of Film, Television and Media at the University of Michigan began in 1972 as an interdisciplinary concentration eventually called the Program in Film and Video Studies. The program brought together the film classes taught by different university departments into a viable concentration for students interested in film. The record group mainly encompasses the administrative activities of the department from 1988 to 2005. Records include: administrative papers and correspondence, program reviews, curriculum requirements, and funding matters.

The record group collectively deals with the operations of the Department of Film, Television and Media, formerly known as the Department of Screen Arts and Cultures, and the Program in Film and Video Studies, mostly during the period of time Gaylyn Studlar served as its director. The record group encompasses the years 1988-2005, but the majority of materials fall within the years 1995-1999. It includes four series: Administrative, Curriculum, Funding, and Publications.

The Department of Geography Records include personal and professional papers of departmental chairmen, Kenneth C. McMurry and Charles Davis; also administrative papers, including minutes of faculty meetings, curriculum plans, correspondence, and memos and agendas; and papers relating to Chi Gamma Phi, geography honor society, and the Quadrangle Club.

The Department of Geography records consist of 6 series: Histories, Kenneth C. Murray, Charles M. Davis, Administrative Files, Topical Files, and Photographs.

The University of Michigan. Department of Geological Sciences Publications (.8 linear ft.) include bibliographies, brochures, directories, flyers and newsletters dating from 1933 to the present. These publications primarily document the activities of the department, faculty, staff, students and alumni. In addition, there is information on the summer geology program run by the University of Michigan at Camp Davis in Jackson, Wyoming and Mill Springs, Kentucky.

The Department of Geological Sciences Publications are divided into two series: Unit Publications and Topical Publications. The bulk of the publications document the Department of Geological Sciences.

Germanic Languages and Literature became an independent department at the University of Michigan in 1887, prior to that German language was taught under Modern Languages. Course offerings expanded to include German, Swedish, Norwegian, Gothic, Netherlands, and Yiddish. Departmental records pertaining to curriculums staffing, events, faculty, and the operation of the department. Minutes date from 1929 to 1941, and 1985-2000. Faculty files include William H. Bennett, Francis Brown, Martin Dyck, John W. Eaton, Emery George, Otto Graf, Leta Lewis, Henry Nordmeyer, Clarence K. Pott, Walter Reichart, Alice Tramm, Frederick B. Wahr, and Norman Willey.

Records from the University of Michigan Department of Germanic Languages and Literatures were received in three accessions from the department in 2005, 2006, and 2008. The material is described as one collection and is primarily comprised of records related to departmental administrative functions, events and publications, curriculum, and faculty. Files document departmental meetings, graduate and undergraduate curriculum, rotational reviews, staffing plans, personnel information, and faculty.

The records measure 1.6 linear feet, and date from 1929 to 2009, with the majority of materials from the period between 1945 and 1980. The records are primarily comprised of correspondence, minutes, personnel materials, and administrative files and are arranged into five series: Administrative, Curriculum, Events, Publications, and Faculty.

The Department of History of Art was originally established as the Department of Fine Arts in 1911. The collection ranges from 1946 to 2013 and primarily contains personnel files, newsletters and other departmental publications, and meeting minutes of the Executive Committee and Faculty Meetings.

The Department of History of Art collection is comprised up of three series: Personnel, Publications, and Administration.

The Department of History is an academic department within the University of Michigan established in 1845. The department was originally part of the School of Political Science but separated in 1910 and became a separate department within the College of Literature, Science, and Arts. The collection ranges from 1884 to 2011 with the bulk of the material from the 1970s and the 1980s. The records contain information on administrative matters and operations within the department, including correspondence, memos, meeting minutes, committee information, faculty information, and student affairs.

The University of Michigan Department of History records contain a large range of documentation regarding the operation, administration, statistics, faculty, and proceedings of the department. The bulk of the collection originally arrived at the Bentley in 1988 and a large addition was made in 2012. The collection spans from 1884 to 2017, however, the bulk of the content dates between 1970 and 1990. The collection is divided into fifteen series: Awards, College of LSA, Committees, Correspondence, Department, Faculty, Finances, General, Graduate Program, International Relations, Lecture Series, Partner Institutions, Programs, Publications, Student Affairs, and University of Michigan.

Student papers, 1930-1987 prepared for classes in history at the University of Michigan (primarily Michigan history class taught by Lewis G. VanderVelde, but also including research papers for classes taught by Sidney Fine and others); topics concern Michigan social and political history; Michigan biography and bibliography; and local community history.

The student papers are organized alphabetically by author in two series, which are similar in date range and topics covered.
