The Stephenson collection is comprised of a single series of mayoralty files, arranged alphabetically, and dated 1973-1975. The collection consists of correspondence, speeches, reports, and other materials concerning his mayoralty activities, the operation of city departments, finances, union negotiations, zoning and ordinance issues, and community debate over such matters as revenue sharing, rent control, and the lowering of the penalty for possession of marijuana.

The collection provides some documentation of plays Coakley staged with the University Players, notably Arthur Millers After the Fall, and lecture notes for courses he taught. The collection is organized into three series: "After the Fall", Photographic Slides, Speech 230 "The Arts of the Theatre" and Scrapbooks.
James F. Joy Administrative Records and Agreements
The James F. Joy Administrative Records and Agreements series came from the AMTRAK Depot in Detroit in the Spring of 1986. These were largely the papers of attorney James Frederick Joy (1810-1896), generated in the fifty years of his association with the Michigan Central Railroad. In 1846 Joy framed the company charter and acted as legal counsel for the corporation which purchased it from the state. As a specialist in railway litigation, Joy was largely involved in the extension of the Michigan Central's lines. In 1867 he became company president.
James F. Joy Papers
The James F. Joy series is comprised of four major subseries: Photographs, Letters, Business Correspondence, and Joy Research. Photographs and Letters are small subseries, containing (except for the Office Correspondence series) the bulk of the original, non-copied, material within the collection. Included are portraits of Joy and a scattering of business and political letters from Millard Fillmore, Zachariah Chandler, Joseph W. Story, and Henry B. Ledyard.

In this finding aid, the files have been arranged into one series, Papers and Photographs. Within each series, files are listed numerically according to the file arrangement they were given by the donor. The files in this collection are in JPG and BMP format.
Files include digitized military documents diary entries, photographs relating to his service ca. 1918; also includes photographs of O'Brien and Captain Otto Odjard in a hospital ward, and photographs and newspaper clippings, possibly at the Detroit Ordnance District ca. 1943.

The James Foster Foundation records (0.5 linear feet) document the organization's charitable activities between 1950 and 1963, with the bulk covering the period 1950-1956.
The collection is arranged into folders containing background clippings, bylaws and governing documents, board minutes, financial materials, and correspondence. In addition, there are a few files relating to specific activities of the Foundation, notably the evaluative research in social work conducted by David French and the Michigan Welfare League, a marriage counseling program for Washtenaw County, and a Michigan Foundation's conference sponsored in 1954.
