The record group begins with a small series of Background Information (1986-1992) that includes organizational materials, brochures, and general information on the Freedom Council and the Michigan Committee for freedom. Of particular note is the oral history interview made with James Muffett describing the delegate selection process leading to the 1987 Michigan Republican presidential candidate nomination for Pat Robertson.
The series Background Material, 1962-1999, (0.25 linear feet), is an alphabetically arranged sequence containing materials related to the development of codes of conduct on the University of Michigan's Ann Arbor campus. These include early policies aimed at establishing and adjudicating rules for student conduct on a broad scale (e.g. Rules of the University Community) as well as rules pertaining to a particular issue (e.g. Policy on Violent Intimidation on Campus). The series also contains documents noting changes to Regental bylaws governing the process and establishing domain for the development of such codes of conduct and Michigan state law related to speech codes.
Background Materials, consists of a single scrapbook of photographs, newspaper clippings and other materials related to the dedication of the Goldman Room in 1954.
The first series, Background materials (1974-1989), consists of leaflets presenting the WCC, its history and activities. Included as well are training manuals used by the staff of the Center.
The Background Materials series (.25 linear feet) includes information pertaining to the history of the Deceleco and Unistrut companies. It incorporates a company history, correspondence and information about some of the materials and suppliers that Deceleco used. The folder entitled "Company History" contains a brief but valuable overview of how the company developed since its establishment in 1924. This series spans the dates 1922-1966.
Background Materials (1967-1970) contains a chronology of Old West Side activities and publications from 1967 to 1970. A newspaper article, resolution and an outline for the physical improvement of a neighborhood also provide important information about the objectives of this organization.
The Background Materials series, (.10 linear feet, 1967-1999), includes a curriculum vitae with a chronological list of Sparling's choreographic works through the year 1999, a journal written while he was on tour in the Soviet Union in 1973, news clippings, and other biographical materials.

Correspondence, 1861-1864, of family members who served in the Civil War, including brothers William Baird (Co. C, 6th Michigan Cavalry and later Co. K, 23rd U.S. Colored Infantry) and Henry C. Baird (Co. L, 7th Michigan Cavalry), cousins William E. Baird (Co. E, 22nd Michigan Infantry) and Frederick Diem (Co. C, 6th Michigan Cavalry); other family correspondence of the Civil War era, a reminiscence by William Baird of his family history and Civil War experiences, and miscellanea. William Baird's reminiscence includes an account of his parentage, life on a farm in St. Clair County, early schooling and teaching experiences, and his experiences in the Civil War. He enlisted in Company C, 6th Michigan Cavalry in 1862, and was in winter camp in Washington. The highlights of his journal are the battle of Gettysburg, where he was wounded; studying in a Philadelphia hospital to become a commissioned officer; the granting of his commission through the help of Representative Francis W. Kellogg, and his assignment as first lieutenant to Company K, 23rd U. S. Colored Infantry.
