The collection consists of views of Detroit's buildings, landscapes, and suburbs. There are also two views of Idlewild, Michigan.
Stan Douglas (born October 11, 1960) is an internationally recognized Canadian visual artist whose films, photographs, and other works examine the impact of capture technology on collective memory.
Stan Douglas was born in Vancouver, British Columbia, on October 11, 1960. He graduated from Emily Carr College of Art in 1982. Douglas's first exhibition, "Two Hangers at the Jericho Beach Air Station", was unveiled in 1981; he has continually produced exhibitions—either individually or as part of a group—since then. The city of Detroit has been featured in at least two of Douglas' works: "Detroit Photos" (1998) and "Le Détroit" (circa 1999-2001). In addition to his artistic work, Douglas has taught at the Universität der Künste in Berlin (2004-2006) and Art Center College of Design in Pasedena, California (2009-ongoing).
Douglas has received numerous awards over the course of his career, including the Bell Award in Video from the Canada Council for the Arts (2008), Infinity Award from the International Center of Photography, New York (2012), Hasselblad Foundation International Award in Photography (2016), and Audain Prize for Visual Art (2019).
