Scope and Content:

This collection is comprised of photographs of the Allen's Creek enclosure in Ann Arbor, and is mainly excavation views.

Biographical / Historical:

Russell Alger Dodge was born at Whitmore Lake on November 7, 1893. He received both his B.S. and M.S. in engineering from the University of Michigan. In 1921 he joined the staff of the Engineering Mechanics Department as an instructor, was promoted to assistant professor in 1925, associate professor in 1935, and full professor in 1941. His area of focus was in the fields of hydraulics and the mechanics of fluids. In 1964 he was appointed Professor Emeritus of Engineering Mechanics.

During WWI, Dodge served as a Second Lieutenant in the Coast Artillery. He has also been associated with Dean Cooley's appraisal firm in Ann Arbor as well as Peerless Cement Co., and helped design and supervise the construction of various storm sewers in Ann Arbor.
