Scope and Content:

Scrapbook documents the history of the Department of Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering as well as local and national projects specific to the Marine Hydrodynamics Lab through press releases and newspaper clippings between 1958 and 1967.

Biographical / Historical:

The Marine Hydrodynamics Laboratory is a suite of labs and facilities that engage in classic naval architecture experiments, such as calm water resistance, seakeeping, and propeller tests. The MHL supports education and research at the Department of Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering, University of Michigan.

In 2018, the building was renovated and the lab changed its name to The Aaron Friedman Marine Hydrodynamics Lab. Aaron Friedman was a 1943 naval architecture and marine engineering graduate. Friedman's family gift helped to make the renovations possible.
