Biographical / Historical:

The Office of Institutional Research was founded in 1962. Under Dr. Donald Lelong's direction, steps were taken to align the activities of the office to support university-wide systematic and comprehensive planning.

In 1968, the office began to run and publish the College Resource Analysis System (CRAS) tables. These tables were designed to be used to analyze faculty teaching loads, costs of instruction, enrollment trends, and average class size. Although these tables were not defined during the first few years that CRAS reports were created, they have been consistently generated and used for over thirty years.

In 1973, the office was renamed to the Office of Academic Planning and Analysis due to a subsequent administrative reorganization. It was at this time that the office acquired new responsibilities including developing planning structure and procedures, conducting specific evaluation and planning studies, and evaluating and planning data to aid in decision making.

Donated by the Office of Academic Planning and Analysis (donor no. 6735 ) in September 1988.
